Protesters in Hong Kong blocked traffic to the airport today as a 13th weekend of demontrations continued. Last night there were violent scenes as protesters threw fire bombs, police used water cannons and tear gas and a tactical squad known as “the Raptors” beat passengers on a train.

Travellers were forced to make their to the airport on foot this morning as activists sought paralyse the terminal without challenging a ban on protests inside. Protesters hurled iron poles and bricks onto the tracks at the airport station to disrupt rail services. Bus routes and roads were also blocked.

“We’ve tried everything,” said Anna Sze, 25, who handed out face masks to a growing crowd of protesters outside the airport. “We tried peaceful demonstrations many times.
